Professionally:
I found my passion for working with children when I was a sophomore in high school. I began working at a city ran "Sportzcamp" and stayed there each summer throughout college. Although I originally planned to become a computer programmer it was not my calling. When I graduated college I moved back to Rio Rancho, New Mexico where I grew up and where my family lived. It wasn't until the next year that God brought my wife and I to Colorado Springs. I began seeking a Physical Education job that allowed me to have an impact on the kids. I feared the "huge" schools thus I was really drawn towards the smaller K-12 schools. I was hired by GLOBE Charter School in 2005. At that time GLOBE was a small K-12 school that indeed felt very "family" like. GLOBE was not what I envisioned for teaching Physical Education. GLOBE did not have a playing field nor a gymnasium to have class in, therefore I was asked to drive the students to nearby parks to hold classes. With the addition of some PE equipment I was off and running, literally every hour! After being relocated to a different location two times in four years, GLOBE found a permanent home at what use to be Longfellow Elementary School. The best thing about this location is that it has a real gymnasium. It may be a really small gym but it is better than anything else I've ever had. I quickly began designing some after-school sports programs to include Girls & Boys Basketball and Girls Volleyball. I still take the classes to nearby parks on warm days because of the our tradition and the kids really love to get away from the building.
Personally:
I have been blessed with so much and am so very thankful for all of it. I was a really good kid growing up, thanks to my wonderful parents. I went to work in the eighth grade collecting money to support my addiction of football cards. Between football and music, that was my life through high school. Pathetic, I know. High school was difficult since I wasn't overly athletic, overly talkative, or overly good at anything. I did play football my sophmore year but it wasn't anything like I ever thought it would be. I barely survived highschool and went on to college at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. I loved it there; it was close enough to my family and also a very small school. Actually the town kind of stunk both in things to do and literally from the mushroom farm that was near the campus. I loved my time there, playing tennis, basketball, racquetball, and just blaring music and doing what I wanted. My junior year brought the largest shift in what is my short life; I met my wife. I now think of my life in three terms: pre-Annie, post-Annie, and now fatherhood. My first child Noah was born on my wifes birthday in 2012. We just had our second son Wyatt in 2016. I can honestly say my wife and my sons are the two best decisions I've made in my life.
Since acquiring my job at GLOBE I love just hanging out with the kids at school. They are so amazing. They teach me so much about life and are so loving and hilarious. Many times over my twelve years at GLOBE I have taken a random vacation day and had to go into school because I missed the kids too much. I cannot stand being away from them knowing they are at the school without me. It is bittersweet when the students move on from GLOBE; part of me wishes they could stay with me forever and the other part knows they are pursuing their own dreams. Either way it is way hard for me to deal with and I spend a lot of my time remembering great times with them. I love all you guys.
During my off hours I still love the NFL. My favorite team is the Jacksonville Jaguars. I don't believe there is a strong enough word to describe how obsessed I am with the team, just ask my wife. Besides that, I love listening to music and hanging out with my wife and sons.
My life has been really great so far and I could not ask for more.
